A Journey through Plant Evolution

A commission to redevelop the entrance to a five-star visitor attraction in central Edinburgh. This public realm project focused on providing educational opportunities in a designed landscape, exploring the story of plant evolution from the pre-Cambrian to the rise of Angiosperms.

A double-helix DNA strand contextualises the design and provides a structured pathway along which a timeline of plant history is projected. Interactive display panels and multi-media installations present an educational platform appealing to mixed age-groups.

We specified representative plant material to illustrate the evolutionary journey and combined this with a geologically relevant hard-scape to create an immersive and material rich experience.
