Experienced Landscape Foreman

We are looking for a highly experienced Landscape Foreman to join our construction team, delivering high-quality gardens and landscapes across Edinburgh and Scotland.

Stephen Ogilvie is an established garden design, landscape construction and horticulture practice with 35 years experience in delivering high-end landscape projects. We work on a range of private gardens and large landscapes, with our in-house design, construction and horticultural teams working closely together from design through to completion.

This is a senior site-based role for someone with significant landscape construction experience who is confident taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of a project.

The role

Working with our Construction Manager and design team, you will take responsibility for delivering projects on site - organising your team, planning ahead, coordinating materials and subcontractors and ensuring work is completed safely and to a consistently high standard.

You'll be expected to understand the bigger picture of a project as well as care about the details that make a well-built garden.

Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and organising a landscape construction team on site

  • Setting out and working accurately from construction drawings

  • Planning labour, materials, plant and upcoming works

  • Managing the day-to-day programme and keeping projects moving

  • Coordinating subcontractors and suppliers where required

  • Maintaining high standards of workmanship and site presentation

  • Communicating with our Construction Manager, designers and clients

  • Identifying problems early and helping find practical solutions

  • Managing site health & safety and ensuring company procedures are followed

  • Supporting and developing less experienced members of the team

About you

We're looking for someone who already has substantial experience in landscape construction and has previously led teams or run projects on site.

You'll need a strong practical understanding of hard landscaping and landscape construction, ideally including:

  • Natural stone and porcelain paving

  • Steps, walls and masonry

  • Drainage and groundworks

  • Timber construction

  • Setting out and levels

  • Planting and soft landscaping

  • Reading and interpreting construction drawings

More importantly, we're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, is organised, communicates well and enjoys being part of a professional team.

You should be comfortable making decisions on site while also knowing when something needs to be discussed with the wider project team.

A full UK driving licence is required.

Relevant industry qualifications and machinery tickets are advantageous, although experience, attitude and ability are equally important.

What we offer

This is a permanent, senior site-based position within an established and respected landscape company, working on some of the most interesting private gardens and landscape projects across Edinburgh and Scotland.

We offer a strong overall employment package, including:

  • Competitive salary, based on experience

  • Company van

  • Ring-fenced performance bonus scheme

  • 31 days annual leave, increasing with length of service

  • Company pension

  • EV salary sacrifice scheme

  • Additional employee benefits

  • Ongoing training and opportunities for further qualifications

  • High-quality tools, machinery, uniform and PPE

You'll work alongside experienced designers, landscapers and horticulturists, with the support of our Construction Manager and wider team.

We're looking for someone who wants to take real ownership of their projects - someone who can lead a team well, plan ahead, solve problems and take pride in delivering work to the highest standard.
